Ramavarma District Club, Alleppey was established in 1894 on a plot of land gifted by the then Maharaja of Travancore, His Highness Sreemoolam Thirunal Ramavarma Maharaja, situated in the heart of the town, the Club now hosts about 900 members drawn from the elite of Alleppey and Kerala. Alappuzha has a rich legacy of trade and industry. It is well known as the 'Venice of the East'. The town is the prime center for production and export of Coir products and Gold ornaments. It is fast growing into a tourist spot attracting thousands from all over the world.
